The Marching Band is group of high school students led by Mr. Edi Rovi who perform in the stands at sporting and town events. This is different than the school band or the Jazz Band, though there are overlaps.
Band Camp is rehearsals before school starts. There are usually a couple of days of learning music indoors and then a week of working on the music while also adding the marching band choreography.
Rehearsals are on Mondays and Thursdays from 5pm – 7pm, rain or shine. Musicians are asked to be ready to play at 5pm. If there is inclement weather, the band will rehearse in the Band Room.
Yes! Sports team practices and games have priority over Marching Band, but students can absolutely do both! Musicians should speak with Mr. Rovi about any scheduling conflicts.
All musicians have been measured for a uniform. They will bring them home from rehearsal. The uniforms should be kept until all performances are done for the school year (after the Memorial Day parade). Mr. Rovi asks that the uniforms be dry cleaned before they are returned.
The marching band will perform at all home varsity football games at Blocksidge Field. You can find the football schedule here. The marching band also plays at the Thanksgiving game against Marblehead, regardless of location. The 2026 game will be at home in Swampscott. The marching band also performs through the school year, including at the Memorial Day parade in Nahant.
The home football games in fall 2026 are:
· Thursday, 09/10/2026 (kickoff at 7pm)
· Friday, 09/25/2026 (kickoff at 7pm)
· Friday, 10/09/2026 (kickoff at 7pm)
· Friday, 10/30/2026 (kickoff at 7pm)
· Thursday, 11/26/2026 (kickoff at 10am)
Football games tend to kick off at 7pm at Blocksidge Field. The marching band needs to arrive with their uniforms and instruments at 4pm. They will help unload the band trailer for set up. They will then warm up and practice in the stands. There is a dinner break that usually goes from 5:30 – 6:30pm. Musicians should be back, in uniform, and ready to play at 6:30pm. After the halftime show, the band has a break until the 3rd quarter ends. At the end of the game, all band members should stay and help to repack the band trailer.
The Band Boosters are a group of parents who help to help support ALL of the bands at Swampscott Public Schools: elementary, middle and high school! As with all booster clubs, we exist as a group of advocates for the band programs. Members are invited to get involved, bring your talents and ideas, and engage in meetings and events. You can sign up to join here.
The short answer is no. We also exist to support the band financially. As you may know, there is no fee for students to participate in the band. To build a base of financial support, we ask all members to contribute a minimum of $50 annually if you are able. This is not required of membership, and individual contributions will not be publicized. If you can contribute more than $50, please do! You can contribute here.
The Big Blue Band Boosters sell 50/50 raffle tickets at the home football games. We need help at the home football games selling 50/50 raffle tickets. The sales start an hour before the game through halftime, when the winning ticket is drawn. If you want to sign up, you can do so by clicking here.
